"She’s Out of Control" is the Worst Film of 1989! The film that causes Gene Siskel to quit his job as a film critic. Now I know how he feels, it’s a terrible film. "Harlem Nights" was awful, this was Eddie Murphy’s direction debut and sadly his downfall until "Boomerang" came along. Then, went back and forward with his career between good and bad. "Star Trek V" is the worst of the series!

Roger Ebert’s last quote on "Ghostbusters II" makes me a little angry inside because it really insults the audience’s intelligence. Granted, I like this sequel. I also like "The Wizard" and "Next of Kin".

Still, this was like the other "Worst of" shows where "Siskel & Ebert" puts some decent films into their worst list.

Some say "Licence to Kill" is the worst of 1989, but to me, it’s the best Bond ever because it’s the first Bond movie rated PG-13.

I agree that "Ghostbusters II" was completely boring. I disagree about "Harlem Nights". This movie is very funny. I laughed out loud at certain spots in this movie. Why did Tony Danza do a movie called, "She’s Out Of Control"? This movie made him look like a total idiot. I remember when "No Holds Barred" came out. It looked good but it wasn’t that great. Joan Severance was beautiful to look at though.

"She’s out of Control"... ugh. Why does it seem that fathers being obsessed with the s*xuality of their daughters never gets questioned in screen comedy?

TV caliber? Yes, I suppose at the time TV vs. movies was different, although not much. Changed greatly since. But there were great TV productions at the time and before that could easily combat the "caliber" of movies. Roots, Sybil, Twilight Zone, Mary Tyler Moore Show....all so much better than most theatrical films ended up being.
The comparison of movies vs. TV is and always has been unfair IMO. There’s crap in both and there’s excellence in both...just two different venues of expression in visual media.

Her Alibi, Next Of Kin, and Star Trek V (my personal choice for worst of the series, although it has it’s moments, and the chemistry among the three leads is as strong as ever), are the only films on this episode I want to revisit on a semiregular basis.

I meant that he almost did quit his job. Good thing he didn’t! Thanks, Phillip.

there’s something very wrong with the idea of Roger choosing The Wizard over Little Monsters for this show and while i’d disagree with both of them on The Wizard, Gene would agree on that point with me.

wow. Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis both had really piss-poor luck with Gene and Roger this year! Jenny with Troop Beverly Hills, Fred with Little Monsters and both of them with The Wizard!
