The Terminator was one of the few films that really changed film in 1984. And, you two gave The Terminator one thumb up.

In the "Future Male Stars" segment, they might as well have just said "the entire cast of The Outsiders." Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe... what a cast.

Yes but Terminator was a big budget special effects movie, it doesn’t fit the criteria for this special segment.

Jaws changed the whole industry.

Siskel was right re: Cruise vs. Dillon, although it’s kind of depressing that he wouldn’t make it to Ebert’s proposed meeting in 2004. :(

No it wasn’t; the first Terminator was made for a cheap-for-the-time $2 million. A lot of the insert shots had to be cobbled together after production wrapped.

I love "When the Doves Cry" :D Also "Little the Red Corvette" and "Purple the Rain." Way to be hip, Rog! :D

I hope they still make those O’Grady’s chips at 8:32. They look pretty good.

You’re right that Terminator was low budget, though I checked Wikipedia quickly and it said it went up from 4 to 6.5 million.

Like it or not, the Blair Witch Project sure qualifies as a major genre-setting movie. I know it wasn’t the first found footage ever but it sure caused the sensation that is still going on.

I wouldn’t say that John Belushi had a supporting role in Animal House. After all his names came first on the poster.

Sadly, Gene didn’t live for another 20 years, just 15. But they were right about the future stars, in fact, they did a whole show on Tom Cruise in 1990!
