Seeing Roger wearing 3-D glasses is radically strange! No wonder, he hates them! Spacehunter sounds very cheap, like a bad video game! It even features Molly Ringwald long before she became part of the Brat Pack in the John Hughes films.

I also love "Blue Thunder" and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi"! Two awesome films on one show!

Regarding the stinker of the week: I actually started watching Deadly Eyes about two years ago and at about 15 minutes I had to stop because not only was it boring but it actually depicted the death of a human baby off screen ( something I thought I would never see in a movie). We even get to see the blood. It was just a cheap piece of exploitation. The director was the same guy who directed Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee, boy has he fallen

When I heard the Deadly Eyes described by Gene I my initial thought was "this might be a good one for the CinemaSnob to review." After reading your description, I’m sure of it!
If you haven’t heard of the CinemaSnob, look him up and you’ll KNOW what I mean!

i hate to correct Siskel, but Breathless was released in 1960, not 1959. In the US it was released untill 1961. One of the first greats of the French New Wave

I got a kick out of the end of the jedi review: "boy we can’t wait for Lucas to make those new Star Wars movies". Man, to think that there was a time when people had so much faith in Lucas...

Nice of Shelley Long to shill for the furniture guy with the flexible payment options (16:16), especially considering "Cheers" was already up and running.

This would have been right after the first season of Cheers. I think it was near the bottom of the ratings in that first year and almost got cancelled, so people probably still didn’t know who Shelley Long was. She had already been in Night Shift by this point as well, but I guess she still needed to pay the bills.

Ebert: "[...] Lucas says he eventually hopes to make six more Star Wars movies and based on what he’s done so far I hope he does."

Great classic episode. Who doesn’t love "Return of the Jedi", even though it is the weakest of the original trilogy and the Ewoks are pretty annoying.

I’m going to side with Gene on "Blue Thunder" though, my dad and I loved it when I was just a kid.

The remake of "Breathless" was so bad and so weird it almost has to be seen, but don’t go into looking for enjoyment.

Jedi definitely has some chinks in its armor especially compared to its immediate predecessor. Some of the performances are rather flat, and Lucas’s appears to be starting to put a bit too much emphasis on marketing (let’s face it the Ewoks, while not bothering me nearly as much as some people, lend themselves greatly to merchandise sales) and spectacle.
I’m still not that crazy about the revelation of Luke and Leia...which was obviously thought up after Empire, at least I sure hope so anyway.
However, my gripes are really pretty minor and it is a great entertainment overall.

Always liked Blue Thunder, which definitely has 80s written all over it, and Roy Scheider is always dependable.

The original plans for episodes 7-9 were scrapped after Empire was released by Lucas. Lucas’ producing partner Gary Kurtz did not come back to work on Jedi partly over these changes. The "other" Yoda spoke of was not going to be Leia, Leia was not going to be Luke’s sister, and the Emperor wouldn’t have died until Episode 9. The entire plans for the next 4 movies had to be wrapped up in one movie instead, so inparticular the Luke/Leia sibling revelation had to be thought up to avoid the need of introducing the new "other" character. Luke’s sister was going to be a new character introduced in Episode 8.

Roger starts this show wearing 3D glasses to promote another show. Gene is enthusiastic about the movie Blue Thunder but Roger found it implausible. Both of them loved Star Wars (of course). They...
