The Terminator is one of my favorite movies. Arnold Schwarznegger give a brilliant performance and I think he is the best villian, both intimidating and sadistic. A great science fiction movie from the 80’s.

The Killing Fields is not only a great and unique film, but it certainly affected me deeply when I first saw it a few years ago. I make a point to watch it once a year and share it with others. A tragic story that needed to be told and that people shouldn’t forget.

Siskel didn’t understand that the Terminator is the embodiment of nuclear annihilation--the threat that we will be killed by technology--destroyed by our own creation. Cameron brilliantly takes this idea to a cold, chilling endpoint in The Terminator. Great film!

A lot of viewers nowadays will be baffled by Gene’s dislike of Terminator, but you have to remember that when this movie was released is very different than when you see it nowadays on Blu-ray. If I saw say... Disney’s Pinocchio right after seeing ’Pinocchio’s Revenge’ and the 2002 ’Pinocchio’ I would probably be so sick of the character that I’d give it a thumbs down and wouldn’t be able to recognize how genuinely good it is.

IMO they missed the mark on Terminator. Neither of them mentioned how original the story was, which is probably why it was #1 in theaters at the time. Word of mouth got it to #1, because we were all tired of the same old retread sci-fi/action formulas and story lines. Terminator had a new idea, regardless of action scenes that may have been done before. And quite frankly, it wasn’t actually "bloody" at all. There was violence, but I don’t remember any bloody scenes.

Oh, that early 80s music as the balloon goes over the mountains in Just the Way You Are. Great kitsch!

Just The Way You Are: Thumbs Down.

The Terminator: Roger enjoyed it more than Gene who gave it a thumb down.

The Killing Fields: They felt it had potential Oscar...
