I Agree with Ebert, Three Kings and Being John Malkovich should have been nominated, although I have seen neither Magnolia nor Boys Don’t Cry therefore I cannot pass judgement on those films.

This episode, as presented here, is incomplete. I watched it when it was first aired, and at the end they also revealed their choices for the worst nominations. Roger revealed his (don’t remember his choice), but Bogdanovich declined to do so to avoid offending his fellow Academy members. Anyone has the full uncut episode please upload. That’s why this clip is only 13min and not 20.

"But the gifted Mr. Shymalan is a newcomer, one from whom I feel we’ll be hearing a lot." Man, I wish you were wrong, Mr. Bogdanovich.

When I look back on the five performances for best Actor, Denzel’s seems the weakest. I think they are all top rate, like Peter B. said but to me Farnsworth as the old farmer Alvin Strait stands out.

Awesome! I only knew his work as the Dr’s Doctor on The Soprano’s. Seems he didn’t vary too much from his actual personality

Yeah, Bogdanovich brings some Hollywood cred to the show but I really don’t think he was the best choice to co-host the Oscars special. As an Academy member, he had to dance on eggshells so as not to offend any of his peers, and his analysis and explanations for his choices came off as rather...dull (despite the fact that he used to be a film critic). I know Siskel was a tough act to follow, but Ebert could’ve done better. (I still love your movies though, Peter.)
