I can’t believe Spring Break hasn’t been remade/updated yet because Cancun during spring break would absolutely shock most Americans today!

I always hated these movies, and I feel they got worse as time went on. These movies only make all college and high school kids look like nothing but a bunch of s*x-crazed idiots. It seems like every movie with teens as stars have the goal of getting drunk or getting laid. The only way this would work is if there were real conflicts and maturity, but it’s scarce to find this in any of these movies that have that.

What? Teenage s*x movies in the 80s and no "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".

Speaking of which anybody have a review for that.

Ebert lambasted "Fast Times" in his print review (one star) for being really unfair to the Jennifer Jason Leigh character. I would hope that he would revisit that (if he hasn’t already) given his admiration for later films in which Cameron Crowe was involved (and Amy Heckerling for that matter).

Movies like this became normal, but teenage movies actually got much better with John Hughes. His movies are pretty cheesy but compared to these movies, they are brilliant - mostly because he treats his teenage characters as real people with problems and concerns.

Later teen s*x comedies like American Pie owe just as much to John Hughes as they do to these movies (at least the better ones that take the tropes of the s*x comedies but then give us teenage boys and girls who aren’t just cardboard cutouts.)

"Fast Times" was so not a teenage s*x movie. It was a movie about the teenage experience of the early 1980s, not about trying to get some. It’s as much a "teen s*x" movie as Ferris Beuller or 16 Candles, hence it not being included in this episode. It was also 1982, and this was about teen s*x movies in 1983 when theaters were treated to an onslaught of bad teen s*x movies. I suppose they were trying to capitalize on the success of Porky’s.
Years have proven that Fast Times was a much more beloved movie than Porky’s for those of us of that age at that time. Having been 17 in 1983, I will admit to going to a lot of the bad teen s*x movies with friends. But I will still watch Fast Times to this day, whereas I wouldn’t give 99% of the really bad teen s*x movies another look.

Yeah, the run of teenage s*x comedies continued throughout the 1980’s (I wouldn’t place "Fast Time at Ridgemont High" as such, since there was a lot more going on with the film, especially the theme of teenagers maturing into young adults). Latter films of this ilk were 1896’s "Private Resort" (Johnny Depp and Rob Morrow starred, along with Hector Elizondo) and 1988’s "Cheerleader Camp" (starring Betsy Russell, who was featured in the film mentioned in this review, "Private School"). I also wouldn’t consider "Valley Girl" a teenage s*x comedy; I think it’s similiar to "Fast Times", except there are less characters in the film, therefore the characters featured are more centralized.
