Great episode, "Amityville 3-D" is a joke and it was done very badly! However, I really did enjoy "Scarface", "Yentl" and "Mickey’s Christmas Carol".

Therefore, I totally disagree with Siskel & Ebert about "Mickey’s Christmas Carol". Sure, the title was misleading but it good to see an adaptation of a Charles Dickens classic made with original Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, etc. Alan Young was very good as the voice of "Scrooge". This was before he became popular with the series "DuckTales", hence the name "Scrooge McDuck". Sadly, they were were the only ones that slammed it!

RedBaron, I agree with you. "Mickey’s Christmas Carol" was the first version of the Dickens story I ever saw and because I loved it, the movie made me interested in the story (and other versions) for the first time.

I have endless respect and affection for Gene Siskel and really really wish he was still around today, even though he trashed by favourite movie ("Scarface") in this episode.

I’ve never disagreed with him more than when he called Tony Montana (the most entertaining movie character I’ve ever seen) boring! I still think he was a brilliant critic, but even geniuses have off-days. :)

Gene Siskel was a great critic, but yeah, SCARFACE is now a classic.

Gene is wrong, Little Caesar’s Rico Bandello was bad from the start, and got even worse. So was Cody Jarrett in White Heat.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol- "Eh....I hate Mikcey Mouse. I prefer the Muppet version."
Yentl- "It’s OK but I think Streisand needs to fix the script like there should be a nightmare sequence in which spirits tell her that she must give up her masquerade or face eternal damnation."

Siskel really missed the boat on Scarface in a big way. The movie is a powerful classic, brilliantly made, way ahead of its time and feels just as fresh today as it must have felt then.

Not sure how to feel about "Mickey’s Christmas Carol" I like it, but I really don’t think it’s for any reason other than nostalgia. I watched it last christmas and it really doesn’t add anything new to the story and it’s so short that it can’t get into what makes Charles Dickens’ work so good.

I respect their opinions and always will but gene’s biggest mistake was thumbs down to Scarface.......roger’s biggest mistake was thumbs down to Diehard. MY opinion obviously

"Amityville 3-D" was so bad, and unfortunately far from the last Amityville movie. Roger’s idea for #-D part 4 would have been funny and probably a lot more interesting.

Never saw "Yentil". But Streisand did a good job looking like a man.

Roger is right regarding "Scarface". However, Gene’s views are interesting to hear.

I can’t recall "Mickey’s Christmas Carl", but of course, I have seen it, but it does look uninspired indeed.

You have to understand...the reason why they didn’t like SC=carface is because they are both older than 21 and don’t feel the need to fit in by saying how great such a terrible movie like Scarface was just to fit in. IS it a classic now? Not even remotely, except in colleges. And even if it was..so is Rocky Horror. And Scarface is almost THAT bad.

Gene Siskel didn’t even mention Little Caesar and White Heat. Gene was referring to The Godfather when he said "I wanna compare Scarface to an obvious comparison, The Godfather. What happens to Pacino’s character in The Godfather is there’s a fall from goodness and it’s interesting. In Scarface we have a fall from louseness. I didn’t care about him in the slightest. I say it’s more interesting when the guy is good and becomes bad. All of the famous gangster films are not about louses who got lousier. Some of ’em (The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, the crime drama I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang) are about interesting characters who got lousier."

Yentl:loved it!
Amityville 3D:never bothered to see/watch it, and no regrets.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol:same as Amityville.
Scarface: I’m in Gene’s camp on this one. Didn’t care about any of the characters. Not against film violence if done right (the end of Bonnie & Clyde, escape of Lecter in Silence of the Lambs as examples)...the violence in Scarface was just typical De Palma and Stone being unnecessarily controversial to make a good movie. Suggestion over "in your face" is and has always been much stronger in movie history...as an example Hitchcock, who knew how to let the audience imagination fill in the blanks to make tame screen images create horrific images in our minds. IMO Scarface was exploitative crap with nothing to make me ever want to watch it again.

Speaking of "Mickey’s Christmas Carol" did they ever review the Ducktales movie? Can’t seem to find neither Gene nor Roger’s opinions regarding the movie.

Roger begins with a review of the horror flick Amityville 3-D. They both trashed it. They didn’t like Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Gene and Roger enjoyed Barbara Streisand’s Yentyl....
