Harriet the Spy is a mixed bag. It’s fairly strong in its first half with how it presents the troubles that a child goes through and their experiences in general, but becomes a little too tonally dark in its second half. Part of that is because there’s a lot of goofy stuff mixed in with the more serious elements and it creates a dissonance. Also, Bronwen Hughes, who directed the movie, also directed some episodes of Breaking Bad. I guess the world wasn’t ready for her style yet at the time the movie came out. With this review, the trifecta of the Siskel & Ebert Nickelodeon Movies reviews is now available on the site!

Looking over the videos, 1996 is almost complete. Here’s what’s missing:

Jan. 19-21: Memo to the Academy for 1995
Mar. 22-24: Diabolique/Girl 6
Mar. 29-30: A Family Thing
May 31-June 2: Mission: Impossible
June 7-9: The Rock/The Phantom
Oct. 25-27: The Associate/High School High
Nov. 22-24: Star Trek: First Contact/Jingle All the Way

I’m sure I’ll find at least one or two of those in the near future, I haven’t checked all of the Betamax tapes yet. Mission: Impossible is a major omission to this site, as it was the third-highest grossing film of the year! The Memo to the Academy is also important.

Trainspotting was a classic plain and simple

But as far as the rest of the movies on this episode I agree with the reviews

There are certain 1996 videos but also 1995 and 1994 videos that haven’t been posted either
