Thank you Siskel and Ebert for bringing this important issue to the pubilc! I read somewhere that the demand for ’'pan and scan’’ videos went down after this aired.

More like, now we have widescreen TVs, which have solved the problem. I hate widescreen and make a point to replace all of my movies that I foolishly bought in widescreen with fullscreen.

Uh... I mean I hate fullscreen and am replacing them with widescreen. I wish we could edit our posts : /

The thing is that people are now doing the reverse on some movies and older TV shows, either stretching them or cropping the tops and bottoms of the picture to make them fill the wide screen of an HDTV. Not as bad as pan and scan, but still not the correct thing to do.

TBS, the channel that ran colorized movies, stretches out SD shows on its HD channel, views have no choice
