I can’t believe they dared to put these guys live on SNL. I can hear the ratings dropping as the bit continues.

I laughed so much!!! The Fernando’s Hideaway segment was hysterical! And to have S&E actually critique the segments on the show was brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing this, DownsA529! Don’t worry about the video quality...it doesn’t matter.

Hilarious! Wonderful to see S&E at the peak of their popularity, reviewing the SNL short films dead-serious, and not worrying a bit about their reputations. Interesting to see how good they are with a live audience, too.

Apparently they previously did segments reviewing sketches from the night’s broadcast on the first episodes in the 1982 and 1983 seasons, hosted respectively by Chevy Chase and Brandon Tartikoff. Just Googled and found a clip of the first one on NBC.com.

I’m not sure, but this episode seems like it might’ve been a special "clip show" episode and not an official episode. It looks like, other than the Fernando sketch, they might’ve just aired reruns of old SNL "short films" and then had S&E review them. The SNL episode guides don’t seem to mention this episode.

OK, this show was classified as a "special" which aired on March 2, 1985.

Hosted by Billy Crystal, presenting short films and commercial parodies. Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, Robin Williams, Tim Kazurinsky, and Stevie Wonder make appearances in pre-recorded segments from previous seasons. Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert review the show. John Candy and Eugene Levy plug next week’s show with musical guests Hall & Oates (who don’t end up appearing due to a writers strike).

Many apologies for the audio difficulties and some of the video breakups. This was as stable as I could get the video.
