This episode is from 1991, not 1990.

Very interesting that they took a second look at Home Alone. It’s rare that they did that, and while they didn’t quite change their opinion of it, at least they acknowledged why some would enjoy it. That shows maturity and is the heart of good film criticism.

I hope someone can eventually locate the review for Home Alone 2. It wasn’t even available on the old site.

"Queen’s Logic" is a decent comedy/drama! It’s not "The Big Chill", but it’s close!

"Run" is a very preposterous and ridiculous chase thriller with Patrick Dempsey and Kelly Preston in their wasted roles. Ironically, since Roger Ebert mentioned "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", he gave the movie thumbs down!

Two years later, "Siskel & Ebert" would be criticizing the remake of "The Vanishing", which both gave it "Two Thumbs Down" and later Roger put it on his Worst list.

Interesting topic on "Home Alone". I recall that their was a story that after Siskel & Ebert dislike it, that the director offer them (I think it was Gene) to do a documentary on the house, where the film was set. Either way, I still love the movie!

I thought Meet The Applegates came out in 1990, not 1991!

I really like Meet the Applegates. I think the film, which is about accepting people for who they are and not what they are and that you can even come to understand and befriend people from a vastly different, even alien background.

Speaking of revisiting surprise box office hits, S&E also did the same with Hoosiers (in which they literally re-reviewed the film). Plus they spent an entire show looking at the success of Forrest Gump.

I don’t believe they were off at all with Home Alone. People were just foolish enough to buy it because a lot of people are idiots and haven’t seen earlier films that have done the same thing, like To Kill a Mockingbird, which has the same thing with a strange neighbor being supposedly dangerous, but isn’t.
